A plant-based diet is your winning way to wellness! Â Human blood is alkaline with a 7.2 pH. Â When it comes to your blood and food consumption, one thing is true and that is two of a feather flock together! Â Just as your blood has alkaline pH your body wants an alkaline pH in the food it consumes!
More Alkaline = Less Inflammation (foods that are alkaline and fight inflammation are fruits, vegetables, and fish)
ALL fruits and vegetables are anti-inflammatories. Â Some are considered more potent than others though. Â Vitamins and minerals are important to fight inflammation as the one I highly recommend that is an excellent anti-inflammatory as well as an anti-aging supplement is Triveratrol Plus containing ResVinol-25 (60 Softgels). Â This is a top supplement from a top-notch doctor – Dr. Whitaker. The reason this supplement is a very potent anti-inflammatory is due to its 3 Key Ingredients:
1. Â Tumeric (known for anti-inflammatory qualities)
2. Â Aloe Vera (plant known as fountain of youth for healing qualities)
3. Â Resveratrol (dosage in vitamin equivalent to 170 glasses of red wine!)
Of all the plant-based foods, the Indian Goose Berry takes the 1st place prize in being the most potent! Â As it exceeds the anti-inflammatory potency of the 2nd and 3rd place blueberries and pomegranates for anti-inflammatory benefits. Â However, no need to focus on the 3 in the winner’s circle as the goal should be to eat a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables everyday for your anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory responses to be in top form and out do the inflammation and aging process!
*On a side note: If you are not eating a lot of meats (i.e. red meats as they have the essential vitamin B 12), then you need a vitamin with B 12. Â Vitamin B 12 is essential in red blood cell production and must be part of the diet and if not getting it in a food source, then vitamin is neccessary. I stay stocked up with Emergen-C Vitamin C Fizzy Drink Mix, 1000 mg, Tropical, 0.3-Ounce Packets (Pack of 30) and I take one packet a day for my vitamin C and B vitamins.

CLERMONT, Fla (January 27, 2011) —Alicia Weber, entertainer, fitness trainer, and world record setting elite athlete, performed on stage as her character “Madalina Seg” as she revealed weight loss and strength gain secrets!! On stage in front of a laughing crowd of fitness enthusiasts, Alicia prepares people for an up and coming 13 week Fitness Makeover!
The Weber Way to Wellness Reporter snuck back stage to catch Alicia after her act and asked a few questions….
Reporter:Â What is your confidence level and ability to perform comedy roles extemporaneously, while guiding clients to fat loss and physical fitness gains?
Alicia: My confidence is very high. I am used to juggling what I call “double” or even “triple endeavors” and I thrive on versatility. So I am even more energized and excited with the dual roles I play in the 13 week fitness makeover! I have been a fitness trainer/nutritionist and enterainer for over 10 years, so I know the ropes.
Reporter: This is your first “fitness makeover” of 2011. How do you feel about it?
Alicia: I am very excited! Many people are excited and rearing to go! I am very happy so many people care enough about their health to do this challenging event!
Reporter:Â How often to do you do “fitness comedy”?
Alicia: I perform monthly. I have my own line of shows where I am not only the producer and director, but I am the talent also. I combine my creativity plus suggestions from fans to come up with new material and shows on a regular basis. I perform stand up comedy and create strength feat shows for digital download. You can see more of my fitness comedy and characters at www.youtube./com/user/aliciaandclan
Reporter:Â If someone is interested in your fitness makeovers or stand up comedy acts, how can you be reached?
Alicia:Â Email is best at Awinningway@gmail.com and put “fitness” in the subject line.
I recently was surprised to learn about the number of people who are bedridden or must be in a wheelchair. I was surprised because many of these people are in their 60’s! They have no pathological diseases. Their fate came about due to lack of exercise. They all were “couch potatoes” and, subsequently, became overweight which eventually led to atrophy of their muscles.
Just hearing about these persons gave me a sense of fear. If fear is a motivator to make me exercise more, then bring it on! Most of our health problems come from lack of exercise. We were made to move those 600+ muscles that we have. And, of course, the other problem that we have is our diet!
All of the newsletters I get from the medical experts say the same thing: our health is determined from our life style, NOT our genetics. Of course, there are exceptions. People who have thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and other genetic disorders are truly limited by their genetics. I had to prepare blood transfusions for these children and adults on a regular basis. But the majority of us can choose our fates.
Â
So, with this in mind, here’s a list of tips for making better diet choices.
1.)Â Eat at least 1 salad daily. Lots of raw vegetables are filling & provide fiber and essential vitamins & minerals.
2.)Â Completely cut sugars &simplecarbohydrates from your diet. They create a “glucose–insulin–low blood sugar–more glucose desired” cycle.
3.)Â Shore up on fiber—it’s filling so you’ll eat less. High fiber foods include vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, seeds, whole grains. Dr. Agatston, the cardiologist from the South Beach Diet, says a slice of bread should have 3 grams of fiber.
4.)Â Soup is filling. Have clear broth-based soup as an appetizer rather than a creamy-based soup.
5.)Â Make sure protein is included in your meals & snacks: chicken, turkey, tofu, low fat cheeses.
6.)Â Drink plenty of water.
7.)Â Eat an apple 15 minutes before a meal. Researchers have found that it cuts caloric intake by 200 calories.
8.)Â Control portions—use a smaller plate.
9.)Â Use xylitol-sweetened gum or mints. It satisfies between meals.
10.)Â Allow yourself a piece of dark chocolate if you must have a treat.
11.)Â Use a food journal. Being honest and writing out what is consumed can be very revealing and helpful.
12.)Â Green tea is an excellent product to aid in weight loss, and it has many health benefits. I get a product which is flavored with no caffeine. A dropper is equal to 15 cups of green tea. You add a full dropper to your beverage. Go on line to check it out: www.herbasway.com or phone 1-800-672-7322. Next time I hope to discuss more about green tea and other products.

2.)   Rich in monounsaturated fats, unsalted assorted nuts can provide heart health and they can promote fat loss. Next time you want a snack – reach for a big bowl filled with only a handful of nuts! Why? The big bowl helps with portion control – it makes you feel you are eating more and you eat less and satiate. A handful of nuts are all you need to keep your engine running and metabolism kicking!
3.)   Although nutrition is 75% of the full healthy picture, little pictures have big ears! Exercise is a little picture that performed with the right turbulence can turn one into a well-oiled machine! Here’s a quick workout to keep the engine rolling!
Start with 2-3 sets and build to 5 sets
10 pushups (wall, elevated, or standard pushups depending on ability level) Immediately after do 10 squats = 1 set
GO ALL OUT and the goal is to do 3 sets under 3 minutes and 5 sets under 5 minutes! This is a good “pick me up†routine to do once a day to fire it up!!
Approximately 80% of adults are estimated to have some kind of back injury in their lifetime and 10 percent will suffer from a back re-injury, according to Premier back statistics.
The best way to prevent back pain is to become educated in the ways back injuries occur and form a preventative plan. One of the top ways to avoid a back problem is to lift objects properly. There are 7 different proper lifts that you can pick from to keep a healthy back and use your leg strength and not your back to pick things up the right way! Follow along with the video below that shows the 7 proper lifts as the lifting techniques are spelled out underneath.
Avoid Back Problems with the 7 Proper Lifts
Deep Squat Lift - Do a full squat where hips are below knee level. Arms and legs are parallel with an anterior pelvic tilt. Always keep object close for strong base of support – good for medium to heavy lower objects. Grab object at the sides or under the bottom of the object.
Traditional Lift – Get in standard squat position except feet are anteroposterior on each side of object. Good for heavy, low objects – place object between legs to maintain low center of gravity while wide base of support.Â
Power Lift - Go into a half-squat for lifting taller and lighter objects where hips are above knee level. Arms and legs are parallel – grab sides of the object, while maintaining a more vertical position with an anterior pelvic tilt.
Straight Leg Lift – Knees can be slightly bent in this lift known for picking up grocery bags. Grasp sides of the object and hold object close to the body.
One-Leg Stance Lift – This lift is also known as the “golfer’s lift†and it is for very light objects weighing upto a couple pounds at most. The body will go horizontal, while maintaining a straight back and always keep the front leg over the heel (making a 90 degree angle). The back leg can be straight or slightly bent. Again secure object close to body.
Half-Kneeling Lift – good for objects of various sizes and weights. However, AVOID this type of lift if you have a knee problem! This is a useful lift for people of small stature with great balance. The goal of the lift is to secure objects close to the body before standing.
Stoop Lift - This is a great lift for an object below waist level. This is the common lift for different types bags and/or items with handles (i.e. suitcase, purse, brief cases, pails, tool boxes, etc). Just partially flex hip and knees, while maintaining a straight slightly forward back. Feet are shoulder width apart and slightly anteroposterior from each other.
I hope these tips help you “back up†and regroup and start rearing in the right direction in back health! Remember: Keep using your Legs and Rear Muscles when lifting and NOT your back! For more info – Alicia Weber is a fitness expert with YourHealthUpdates.com
